To keep up with the trends in the small boat market, the Monaro 235 Sport has been developed as an adaptation from our current models. We find today's boaters are looking for a low maintenance fuel efficient boat with the comfort and seaworthiness for open water use. This model has been created mainly for day use fishing or commuting, but will have the amenities for limited extended use. Standard power is a Yamaha 250, with the option for other horsepower and brands. Because of the efficient Monaro hull design only a single engine is required. This provides savings on fuel consumption, motor maintenance, overall weight and upfront cost to power the boat.
The hull shape is based on the Monaro 24 hull, a proven performer. Why change something that works so well? The hull has been shortened by 1-1/2" and stern area cut down to form the swim grid. The keel aft has also been modified. Topside, the deck and cabin have been completely updated and reshaped, however, the boat is still recognizable as a Monaro.
The motor mounts directly on the transom, unlike our other models where the motor is mounted to a pod. This makes the overall length close to our 21' outboard model but with performance more similar to the 24' model.
Above deck level, considerable changes have been made. Firstly, the windshield base has been raised 3" and pushed forward 2". With this change we maximize space in the cockpit but still leaving 6'3" length in the berth. Secondly, our all new swim grid is now integrated into the deck and comes with transom door as standard for easy access to the swim grid. Finally, the walkaround deck has been maintained from other models and the bow rail has been extended further aft for added safety.
On the interior, you will now find it almost exclusively finished in molded fibreglass. This increases durability of surfaces and reduces maintenance. The floor has been raised to provide the self-bailing feature. For the convenience of reaching the driver and navigator seats the main floor has been extended as far forward as possible without conflicting with the cuddy door. Fibreglass boarding steps are integrated into the cabinetry for accessing the side decks and double as a footrest. Cabinets are also now fibreglass and integrated into the floor mold. These cabinets have been designed to add an optional sink and 12V fridge. Under the floor aft is a very sizable fish hold with overboard pumpout. For better balance the large gas tank is located forward of the fish hold. In addition, a second fish hold/storage is located under the starboard seating that drains overboard.
The new hard top has also been noticeably reshaped for improved looks and better weather resistance. It is now wider and much longer than previous designs. The headliner is a molded fibreglass panel with drip edge all around the perimeter to help keep the water out. For those interested in adding radar a pad has been incorporated into the design with a raceway for cables. To compensate for the raised floor and increase headroom, the windshield has also been raised. The access door to the vberth has been raised 9" and headroom in the berth area is higher.
